Leaks
A leak in your household, whether it comes from a tap, in-wall pipe or toilet is not only wasting water but can also end up costing you money if left unfixed. For example, if you have a leaking tap that is dripping 10 drops of water per minute it has wasted about three litres of water after a 24 hour period, after a week that’s 21 litres wasted, after a month 90 litres and so on. By the end of the year that could add up to around 20,000 litres of water wasted from just one tap! Almost enough to fill a small swimming pool!
As you can see it is very important to have all leaks fixed as soon as you notice that you have one. Most leaks are easy to detect, such as taps, showers and toilets because you can either see or hear them, others such as in wall leaks, are a little harder to detect and can sometimes go unnoticed for long periods of time. Every now and then it is important to turn off all taps in your house and check to see if your water meter is still ticking over. If it is then you most likely a leak somewhere.
